Design Analysis of the Opening Title Sequence of Casino Royal 2
The James Bond flick Casino Royale is a highschool stakes action/adventure thriller with themes of the dirty world of gambling. The go-ahead title sequence is a beautifully done add of art that utilizes the elements and principles of design to combine aspects of a casino with a spy action thriller into an introduction well worth noting about. The actor sucks you into an elegant and mysterious world of undefined figures dueling it out in the midst of an atmosphere of gambling symbolism. What seemed at first a real complex use of visuals to draw the eye, ended up being, with later analysis, a complete mastery through simple uses of the elements and principles of design.
Description of Title Sequence
The title sequence begins with the simple James Bond opening perspective of peering through a guns barrel as Bond emerges in the rivet of the radial balanced achromatic screen to snarl the viewer down.
As the blood trickles down, covering the screen in red, the opening credits begin right in the centre where our focus turns to. To emphasize this focus a spiral sprightliness appears of various card suits spinning around the center, creating an implied point, initially introducing the casino theme to the sequence. These shapes were stylized to be very clean move on like vector graphics. To help this style textural emphasis is very minimal throughout the sequence due to the want of qualification it a clean graphical piece. The red background of the volute shapes also does a subtle transformation into a diminutive pattern defining the negative space and giving more depth to the sequence, especially since the pattern is vague, manipulating atmospheric perspective qualities to it.
