Does ecotourism contribute towards conservation of threatened species and habitats or is it just a marketing ploy of the tourism industry? Using 251 imitation character studies on ecotourism from the literature, I looked at the distribution of gaffe studies everyplace continents, habitats and ?agship species suits and what factors in?uenced whether an ecotourism regime was perceive as ecologically sustainable by authors. Over 50% of ecotourism case studies w ere account from Africa and primordial America. The overall distribution of ecotourism case studies did not re?ect vertebrate endemism, nor overall tourism distribution in wrong of tourist numbers and receipts. There were signi?cant differences among continents and habitats with involve to the proportion of sustainable case studies: ecotourism is perceived to be little sustainable in South America and Asia, and in island and kitty habitats. The type of ?agship species in like manner in?uenced whether ecotourism was classi?ed as sustainable or not: ecotourism with no ?agship species was rarely classi?ed as sustainable while charismatic bird and mammalian species were associated with a higher probability of sustainability.
